Apostle Islands Fishing Charters

Fish Lake Superior’s Epic Apostle Islands for Lake Trout

Our Apostle Islands fishing charters typically run out of the Bayfield, Wisconsin area with multiple options for launches. This sets us up in close proximity to the crystal-clear waters of Lake Superior’s Apostle Islands – comprised of 22 enchanting islands with rugged coastlines carved with sea caves. These islands offer more than just breathtaking scenery—they’re home to some of the best lake trout fishing in the world, with the occasional bonus of hooking into a rainbow trout or salmon. The shoreline structure makes for a beautiful troll, with loads of fish cruising and crushing baitfish along the drop-offs and humps.

What Makes The Apostle Islands A Fishing Hotspot

The Apostle Islands are more than a fishing destination—they’re an adventure. This remote and rugged area of Lake Superior is known for its pristine waters, sandstone cliffs, and hidden sea caves. These islands tell the stories of centuries past, from Ojibwe Natives to lighthouse keepers and early settlers who worked in brownstone quarries, fish camps, and lumber camps. Anglers are drawn here not just for the fish but for the chance to immerse themselves in this incredible natural and cultural landscape.

Fishing these waters means targeting lake trout, a species that thrives in the cold, clean depths of Lake Superior. These fish grow to impressive sizes, often weighing 10 to 20 pounds, with trophy fish pushing even larger. While lake trout are the main attraction, rainbow trout occasionally make an appearance, adding excitement to an already rewarding day on the water.

Jigging & Trolling For Trout

Our trips focus on trolling and jigging, two highly effective methods for targeting lake trout in the Apostle Islands. We’ll mix up our strategies depending on seasonality and weather conditions.

Trolling: Using downriggers, we present spoons and crankbaits at precise depths where lake trout are feeding. This method covers a lot of water, increasing your chances of connecting with these deep-dwelling fish.

Jigging: For those who prefer a more hands-on experience, jigging is a thrilling way to target lake trout. Dropping heavy jigs into deep water and feeling the strike of a trout is an adrenaline-pumping experience that anglers never forget.

More Than Fishing: A Journey Through History and Beauty

The Apostle Islands offer more than just incredible fishing. Each island has its own story to tell, from historic lighthouses to shipwrecks resting on the lakebed. There’s a reason this area boasts more lighthouses than any other U.S. National Park—each one is a testament to the maritime history that shaped this region.

Photographers and adventurers will love exploring the sea caves, sandstone cliffs, and diverse wildlife. Keep your camera ready—you’re likely to spot eagles soaring overhead, rare bird species nesting along the shoreline, or even a black bear wandering the islands.

Customize Your Experience

A trip to the Apostle Islands is about more than just catching fish. It’s about creating memories. Whether you want to combine fishing with sightseeing, stop for a swim on a sandy beach, or hike a scenic trail, we can customize your trip to suit your preferences.

For a truly unforgettable experience, consider an overnight option. Spend the day fishing, then relax on your boat or camp on one of the islands, soaking in a stunning Lake Superior sunset. And on the way back, why not dock at Red Cliff Casino for a bit of fun or grab a cocktail and some live music at the iconic “Tom’s Burned-Down Café”?
